We have no way of knowing whether you may want to use images elsewhere in the future, so we will look at resizing and optimising image sizes as a whole, but not go through and remove any images.
We will remove thumbnail images that are taking up too much space. Some themes, (ProPhoto, we’re looking at you) have a tendency to create a great many image files as part of their “image downsizing” algorithm. However, they create duplicates of every single image in the library, not just the ones in use.
If this is the case, we will turn the downsizing option off, and identify the offending thumbnail files using a regular expression to search the media library files, allowing us to easily remove them without causing any issues for the site.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”How will you resize images?” tab_id=”1581498438-2-3″][vc_column_text]We take a relatively cautious approach to resizing images. Some of your images may be full-width images and we don’t want these to appear pixellated on any screen. Any images with a longest edge great than 2560px will be resized down to that.
We use JpegMini to compress your images, which is not the *best* tool for the job going forwards once we have fixed the existing issues. But is the best way we have found for bulk optimising image libraries quickly.
For your own compression needs we recommend ShortPixel. ShortPixel does have a bulk optimisation option. However, if your media library is very large it can be slow and need restarting several times depending on your server resources.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Will my site experience any downtime?” tab_id=”1581500101665-2-5″][vc_column_text]Not at all.
It can slow down a little while we are copying files to/from the server. But this will only be for a short period.
